All children and youth sports are Christ-centered and are built around each player growing in social, physical and athletic skills.
Children’s winter basketball is played through ESCRA-East Shelby Recreation Association. It is a non-profit organization designed to provide and promote recreation between churches in Shelby County in a Christ-honoring environment. ESCRA has dedicated its mission to serving the Shelby County area since 1997, and looks forward to expanding the community by “Playing with a Purpose”: 1. Provide athletic competition for all ages 2. To promote a wholesome environment that will assure a spirit of fair play and sportsmanship, 3. To promote participation in team sports 4. To encourage sports fellowship that honors Jesus Christ.
Teams are coached by men and women who have been approved by First Assembly Memphis and share the same values of the Recreational Sports Ministry of First Assembly.
On-Line registration for Basketball will begin September 16-October 21. Signing up during those dates will insure your child will have a place on a team. All registrations on-line will be considered first. Any late registrations will be subject to a $10 late fee and we cannot guarantee that we will have place on a team for your child. If you know anyone that played before, or someone that would like to play, please let them know.
A Player’s team division is determined by his/hers EXACT ages on June 1, 2018.
Here are the age groups we will be offering:
Under 8 Boys (6 and 7 Year Old Boys) Under 8 Girls (6 and 7 Year Old Girls)
Under 10 Boys (8 and 9 Year Old Boys) Under 10 Girls (8 and 9 Year Old Girls)
Under 12 Boys (10 and 11 Year Old Boys) Under 12 Girls (10 and 11 Year Old Girls
We will be using the same uniform that we used last year. If you do not have a uniform, or your child needs a larger size, the cost will be $80. For those children that can still wear their same size, the cost will be $60. If your child will be using his/her last year uniform, please send me an email with your child’s jersey number so that we will not duplicate the numbers.

Team Organization and Selection
All players will be assigned to a team based on their age group. We do want your child to have a great experience, but we do not rearrange teams based on being in the same class at school, etc. and we do not organize teams based on the placement of players in response to parent’s request.
PLEASE NOTE: If there are not enough players for either or both of the girls teams, they will be allowed to play on the boys team that corresponds with their age. If the younger girls team does not have enough players, they can play up on the older girls team if they are physically able to keep up.
We do reserve the right to make an adjustment due to major conflicts between players or in extreme cases involving transportation problems, but this will be the exception, not the rule. We simply can’t run a successful and thriving program based on the requests of over 75 parents in any given season. Thanks for your understanding in this matter; it is always our goal for your child to meet new friends and expand their friendship base.
